Aquatic toxicity tests, also known as bioassays or Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) Testing, are used to monitor the toxicity of discharge waters.
Bioassays are a cost effective evaluation of potential environmental impacts and provide a measure of the interaction between constituents in a wastewater discharge. Aquatic test organisms are subjected to varying concentrations of wastewater, under controlled laboratory conditions. Toxicity levels are determined by statistical analysis.
