EnviroScience Celebrates Bike Month and National Bike to Work Day
Last year, the League of American Bicyclists recognized EnviroScience, Inc. with a Silver Bicycle Friendly BusinessSM (BFBSM) award, joining nearly 1,350 visionary businesses across the country.
With the announcement, EnviroScience joined a cutting-edge group of 1,343 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in all 50 states and Washington, DC, that are transforming the American workplace.
EnviroScience’s love for bicycling started a few years ago when the company’s Corporate Responsibility Committee (CRC) participated in the Buckeye Breakaway for the National MS Society. The event is a 150-mile bike ride over two days to raise money for research and programs towards the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Several of EnviroScience’s employees suffer from the disease, and coworkers and friends came together to form “Team ES Against MS”. Anyone interested in joining Team ES Against MS can contact team captain Joanne Pem at jpem@enviroscienceinc.com. Riders do not need to be employees, and there are various route options for riders of any skill level.
This year, the CRC is increasing their goals for bicycle-friendly events by celebrating National Bike Month during the month of May. The month will kick off with a safety and maintenance clinic for office staff. Several short bike rides have been set up both after work and during lunch hours, and a few extra bikes and helmets are provided for those who do not have their own. The highlight of the month will be National Bike to Work Week, with a potluck lunch to benefit the Canalways Coalition on Thursday, May 17th and a bike to work event on Friday, May 18th.
Moving forward, EnviroScience seeks to further promote cycling advocacy by working closely with other local Bicycle Friendly Businesses and the surrounding community. Access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League will help EnviroScience achieve their goal of becoming even more bicycle-friendly. The company strives to become a Gold or even Platinum level Bicycle Friendly Business someday.
