In line with this, three of our key team members—Ryan Romanson, Senior Ecologist; Emily Tarsa, Environmental Scientist; and Eric Romaniszyn, Senior Scientist—attended the American Rivers Dam Removal Project Manager Training from July 24-25, 2024, at the French Broad River Academy in Asheville, NC.

Key members of EnviroScience's North Carolina regional office attend the American Rivers Dam Removal Project Manager Training

Hosted by American Rivers, this specialized two-day workshop is designed to equip professionals with the critical project management skills needed to lead dam removal and river restoration projects across the nation. For EnviroScience, the training marks a significant step in enhancing our dam decommissioning and river restoration offerings throughout Western North Carolina and the Southeast.

Highlights from Dam Removal Training

Project Management Expertise for Dam Removal
Participants delved into the essentials of project management, including planning, budgeting, and risk management, all tailored specifically to dam removal. This knowledge equips our NC team to manage complex projects while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Navigating Permitting and Regulatory Challenges
A dedicated panel session provided in-depth guidance on securing federal, state, and local permits for dam removals. The ability to navigate these regulations ensures smooth, compliant project progression for our clients.

Technical and Engineering Best Practices
Sessions focused on sediment management, structural assessments, and evaluating engineering designs—critical components to successful dam removal projects. These insights will enhance EnviroScience’s ability to mitigate environmental and structural risks during project execution.

Stakeholder Engagement
A significant part of the training highlighted the need for effective stakeholder engagement, ensuring that community members, government agencies, and environmental advocates are part of the process. This collaborative approach is essential for gaining support and managing expectations throughout the project.

Networking and Industry Leadership
The training also provided ample networking opportunities with river conservation experts and advocates. Building connections with other professionals strengthens our ability to lead and collaborate on large-scale river restoration projects.
